Human (Safety Education)

1)     Human (Safety Education) – Providing knowledge, skills, and education for safe driving to society at large

Since starting its driving safety promotion activities in Brazil in 1972, Honda has carried out activities in 40 countries throughout the world including countries in A&O region, establishing Traffic Education Centers in various countries and cooperating with local dealers. Of those countries, emerging countries in particular contain areas where regulations, traffic rules and road infrastructure are not yet ideal despite the fact that motorization is rapidly progressing. An increase in the number of fatal traffic accidents has become a social issue. Therefore, Honda is strengthening its activities in coordination with the applicable countries and the relevant people in local governments.

2)     Technology (Vehicle Technologies) – Developing and promoting even more effective technologies to ensure the safety of all road users

In 2014, the Company announced “Honda Sensing,” a new advanced driver-assistance safety system. “Honda Sensing” is a general term for advanced safety technologies that will lead to automated driving technologies in the future, which assists the driver from normal driving to collision avoidance based on information on the surroundings of the vehicle, collected through the use of sensors and other elements.

Honda will steadily continue to develop technologies as indicated in the roadmap for safety technologies for automobiles (see the diagram below), with an aim to realize “a collision-free mobile society” where anybody using the road can do so in safety.

Collision Mitigation Braking System TM

This system helps drivers avoid collision and minimize impact by applying braking when its forward facing camera and radar transmitter detect oncoming vehicles and pedestrian that could cause an imminent collision.

Lane Keeping Assist System

This system helps keep you in the middle of the lane by warning the drivers with vibrations on the steering wheel, even gently steering your vehicle back to the middle of lane if you start to drift.

Road Departure Mitigation

Using a camera, RDM is designed to warn drivers about to cross over lane marking through the display and vibrations on the steering wheel, even applying steering or braking if necessary to help your vehicle from driving off the road.

Adaptive Cruise Control

This smart cruise control detects the distance and speed gap from the vehicle ahead, controls the acceleration and braking operations so that an appropriate distance will be maintained. The system will reduce the burden on the driver while driving on congested highways.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering™

Recognizing some collisions still happen, we designed a body structure that is engineered to absorb and distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle, helping to reduce the severity of frontal impacts.

Advanced Airbag Technology

Front airbags come standard in every Honda, and side curtain and front knee airbags up the protection factor.

Communication (Telecommunication Networks)

3)     Communication (Telecommunication Networks) – Communicating essential information in an integrated manner to raise traffic safety awareness

Honda is currently focusing on building a system that will provide information on traffic conditions in surrounding areas and traffic accident risks on a real-time basis by integrating the “Honda Sensing” technologies with the telematics service, and, using wireless communication such as Wi-Fi, connecting with both other vehicles equipped with sensors or GPS, as well as people in surrounding areas who are carrying smartphones. Honda is striving to realize “a collision-free mobile society” where everyone sharing the road can safely and confidently enjoy the freedom of mobility.
