for the School Library Development
Bangkok, Thailand, March 4, 2017: Honda Thailand Foundation, a charitable organization certified by the Ministry of Finance, donated books of value for 200,000 baht to Watkohwangsai (Kittiwattanakarn) School under its School Library Development Project. Mr. Paichayont Poonkwan, the principle of Watkohwangsai (Kittiwattanakarn) School received the donation.
At the occasion of the donation, over 50 volunteers from the Honda group of companies in Thailand, the associates of the Library Association of Thailand and the students from Chandrakasem Rajabhat University were volunteered to help arrange all the books on book shelves at the school library.
The School Library Development Project started in 2009 based on a preceding survey done by the Foundation in the same year. The results showed that 28 out of 30 schools surveyed were lacking knowledgeable librarians and good books at their libraries. Believing that school libraries are important venues for student to expand their knowledge, Honda Thailand Foundation continues the development project, expecting that Thai children utilize opportunities to learn at school.
Watkohwangsai (Kittiwattanakarn) School is located at 97 Moo 3 Thanonkad Sub-district, Muang District, Nakhonprathum Province, and it is under supervision of the Primary Educational Service Area Office, Nakhonprathum province. The school offers three-level curricula; kindergarten, primary, and secondary, and now 754 students study there with 30 teachers. Watkohwangsai (Kittiwattanakarn) School is the 26th school that received book donations from Honda Thailand Foundation under the School Library Development Project.
The Honda Thailand Foundation was established in 2002 with the donations from four Honda companies in Thailand; Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., A.P. Honda Co., Ltd., Thai Honda Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The Foundation aims to improve the current situation of the Thai society in various fields, which include education, preservation of Thai culture, philanthropy, and environment.
The Honda Thailand Foundation has been in partnership with the Thai Library Association under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to promote libraries for under privileged schools. For other objectives, the Foundation works with the Asian Elephant Foundation of Thailand to conserve elephant habitats in the jungle, and with Prabahtnampu Temple to help people who suffer from HIV or AIDS. The Foundation also collaborates with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Ministry of Interior and the National Institution of Emergency Medicine, under the Ministry of Public Health to support disaster prevention and mitigation projects under Honda Khiang Khang Thai Fund, which is a special fund secured in the Honda Thailand Foundation to tackle the impacts from natural disasters.
